Norfolk Lactation Consultant
IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant)
Some people say that breastfeeding is one of the most natural things in the world. In many ways, I would agree.....but that doesn't necessarily mean it is easy....particularly in a society such as the U.K, where many of us have grown up without seeing what breastfeeding really looks like, how to do it comfortably, and in a way that fits with who we are and the realities of our lives.
Many women and babies start their breastfeeding journey having had a difficult birth, and exposed to many different medications,. It is now the norm to be discharged home before confidence and competence with breastfeeding is established.
Those first hours, days and weeks of motherhood are important to successful breastfeeding...when the right support isn't in place, or when an unexpected challenge arises, breastfeeding can be a frustrating, confusing, and guilt-inducing struggle!
As a lactation consultant, I offer support to women and their families in overcoming these problems.
I also offer antenatal support, to help you prepare for breastfeeding, either for the first time, or, to help understand why it went wrong before, and, find ways to improve your experience and breastmilk supply this time.
I am also interested in supporting women who are hoping to breastfeed without having been pregnant, i.e. in an adoption or surrogacy situation.
